                            Dark Date Nut Bread

   Amount  Measure       Ingredient -- Preparation Method

      1/2  cup           water, boiling
      1/2  cup           raisins
      1/2  cup           dates -- chopped
    1 1/2  tablespoons   butter
      3/4  cup           baking soda
      3/4  cup           flour, plus 2 tablespoons
      1/2  cup           sugar
      1/4  teaspoon      salt
    1                    egg
      1/2  teaspoon      vanilla
      1/4  cup           nuts -- chopped
 
 Pour boiling water over raisins, dates, butter, baking soda.  Let stand. 
 
 In a separte bowl mix flour, sugar, salt. Add fruit mixture and remaining
  
 
 ingredients.  Beat well.  Pour into greased & floured #1 coffee can or 
 
 loaf pan.  Bake at 350* 60-70 minutes.  This bread freezes well.
