                             SOFT SUGAR COOKIES

    1      cup           Butter or margarine -- * see n
    2 1/4  cups          Sugar
    2      large         Eggs
    5      cups          All-purpose flour
    1      teaspoon      Baking soda
      1/2  teaspoon      Baking powder
    1 1/2  teaspoons     Ground cardamom
      1/2  cup           Milk
 
 Recipe by: Jo Merrill * you can also use light margarine. Soften the margarine or
butter.
 
  In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and 2 cups of sugar.
 Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
 Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and 1 teaspoon of the cardamon.  Add to
the creamed mixture alternately with milk.
 In a small bowl, combine the remaining sugar and cardamon. Dip rounded
teaspoonfuls of dough into the sugar mixture. Place on greased baking sheets and
bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. Do not overbake.
Cool on wire racks.
