                           Chocolate Chip Cookies

    1      cup           {2 sticks}  butter or margarine -- softened
      3/4  cup           granulated sugar
      3/4  cup           packed brown sugar
    1                    egg
    2 1/4  cups          all-purpose flour
    1      teaspoon      baking soda
      1/2  teaspoon      salt
    1      cup           coarsely chopped nuts
    1      12 oz. pkg.   semisweet chocolate chips
 
 Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix butter, sugars, and egg in large bowl. Stir in
 flour, baking soda and salt. {Dough will be stiff.} Stir in nuts and chocolate
 chips. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased
 cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown. {Centers will be
 soft.} Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet. Cool on wire rack. Makes about
 6 dozen cookies.
 
 JUMBO CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES: Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls about 3 inches apart
 onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until edges are set.
 Cool completely; remove from cookie sheet. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen jumbo
 cookies.
 
 CHOCOLATE CHIP BARS: Press dough in ungreased rectangular pan, 13 x 9 x
 2-inches. Bake 22 to 25 minutes or until golden brown; cool. Cut into about 3
 x 1 1/2-inch bars. Makes about 24 bars.

 NOTES : Turn chocolate chip cookies into tempting gifts by making cookie pops.
 Prepare Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookies, but flatten the dough and insert wooden
 ice-cream sticks halfway into the dough before baking. These pops are nice
 tied to presents, or placed in a mug or pencil holder.
