                           Mushrooms a la Greque

      1/2  cup           fresh lemon juice
      1/2  cup           olive oil
    2      cloves        garlic -- halved
    1      teaspoon      sugar
    1      teaspoon      salt
    1      teaspoon      basil
    1                    bay leaf
      1/4  teaspoon      black pepper
   14      ounces        (1 can) artichoke hearts
    1      whole         onion -- sliced
    1      pound         mushrooms
 
      Bring first 8 ingredients to a boil and cook for 10 minutes. Pour over
 artichokes hearts, onions and mushrooms. Cover, refrigerate overnight,
 stirring several times. Remove garlic and bay leaf before serving.
