                               LIGHT BROWNIES

   Amount  Measure       Ingredient -- Preparation Method

      1/3   c            Butter, or replace with:
      1/3   c            -Shortening mixed with
    1       tb           -Hot water
    1       c            Brown sugar
    1       ea           Egg
    1       t            Vanilla
    1       c            Flour
      1/2   ts           Baking powder
      1/8   ts           Baking soda
    4       oz           Semi-sweet chocolate chips
      1/2   ts           Salt
      1/2   c            Chopped nuts, optional
 
   Melt butter (or shortening with water) in sauce pan
   over medium heat. Remove from heat, add to brown sugar
   and mix well. Allow mixture to cool. Stir in egg and
   vanilla. Add remaining dry ingredients and mix well.
   Pour mixture into greased baking pan (8x8 or 11x7).
   
   Bake at 350 deg. F for 20 to 25 minutes.
