       Title: Saucy Apple Cake

       Yield: 9 servings
 
       1 c  sugar
     1/4 c  shortening
       1    egg; slightly beaten
       1 c  flour
       1 ts baking soda
     1/2 ts cinnamon
     1/4 ts salt
       2 c  tart apples; shredded,
            -peeled
     1/4 c  walnuts; chopped
            ***sauce***
       1 c  sugar
       2 tb cornstarch
     1/2 c  light cream
     1/2 c  butter or margarine
   1 1/2 ts vanilla extract
 
   In a mixing bowl, cream sugar and shortening.  Add egg and mix well.  Add
   the dry ingredients; mix well.  Fold in the apples and walnuts.  Spread in
   a greased 8 inch square baking pan.  Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes or
   until cake tests done.  For sauce, combine sugar, cornstarch and cream in
   a saucepan.  Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil for 2
   minutes.  Remove from the heat.  Add butter and vanilla; stir until butter
   is melted.  Serve warm with cake.  Source:
