---------- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05 Title: Apple and Almond Streusel Cake Categories: Fruits, Cakes Yield: 1 Servings 2 pk Active dry yeast 1/4 c Lukewarm milk 1/4 c Sugar 2 1/2 c Flour 4 tb Butter or margarine; melt/co 1 Egg 1 ts Grated lemon rind Topping: 2 lb Apples Peel/core/thinly slice 2 1/2 c Flour 1 c Sugar 1 pk (2 oz.) vanilla sugar 2 Sticks unsalted butter Melted & cooled 1 c Slivered almonds Dissolve yeast in milk. Add sugar, mixing well. Pour flour into bowl. Make a well in the center. Stir in yeast mixture, combining gently. Let rest 15 minutes. Beat in butter, egg, and lemon rind, mixing well. Cover dough and let rest 15 more minutes. Roll out dough to fit a 15x10 buttered pan. Place dough in pan. Arrange apples in even rows over the top. Combine flour, sugar, vanilla sugar and melted butter until well combined and crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over apples. Top with almonds. Bake at 350 for 25-35 min. Don't know what vanilla sugar is exactly...know you can make it by putting a vanilla bean in some sugar and letting it stay there a few weeks. I assume you can short cut this by just adding some vanilla extract to the mixture...might not be quite as good, but will do!:) ----- Plain Text Version of This Recipe for Printing or Saving | |
