Mix liquids well. Add to dry ingredient s and mix. Bake 35 minutes at 350°F. Boil frosting ingredients together 1 minute. Stir until partly cool. Add 2 te aspoons vanilla. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NOTES : Variations: 1. Increase soda to 2 teaspoons, omit baking powder, add pinch salt, add 2 heaping tablespoons seedless blackberry jam. (Mrs. W. E. Am os, Charleston Receipts) 2.
