Barton Serving Size : 6 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Dumplings Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 6 medium apples 2 cups flour -- sifted 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup shortening 1/3 cup milk 1 tablespoon butter 6 tablespoons honey 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1/4 teaspoon salt Honeysauce: 3/4 cup honey 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons shortening 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Pare and core apples. Sift flour with baking powder and salt; cut in shortening. Add milk, mixing until soft dough is formed. Roll dough into 12 x 8 inch rectangle; cut into six squares. Place an apple in each square. Combine butter, honey, lemon juice and salt; blend well. Fill apple centers with mixture. Moisten edges of dough with cold water. Bring four corners of dough on top of apples; press edges firmly together. Place in greased 10 x 10 x 2 inch pan. Honeysauce: Combine honey, butter, shortening and salt with 1 1/2 cups water. Bring to a boil; boil for 5 minutes. Pour over dumplings. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg. Bake at 400° for 30-35 minutes.
